My mother was what kind of cat?

Let’s just say it rhymes with sougar!

I was reading a question on one of my favorite age gap relationship forums.  I felt compelled to write the following post as a response to the question.  If you read what I’ve written you’ll figure out what question to which I am responding.  So hang in there it will all make sense, I just had to share it here!

I’d like to introduce you guys to my mom and my step-dad. Here is their picture. They had a 15 year age difference. The pic was taken in 1976. My father had died 5 years earlier leaving her a widow at the young age of 54. The age gap between my mom and dad was 8 DAYS. My mother died 5 years ago shortly before her 85th birthday and what would have been her 28th wedding anniversary with my step-father.

Now, 5 years later, my step-father enjoys dating a variety of women closer to his own age. We just celebrated his 76th birthday. I guess my mom was a cougar long before it was cool. Their 15 year age difference worked beautifully and was full and complete is EVERY way. The only problem they had is that sometimes HE had a hard time keeping up with her. I can hear her wonderful and much missed laugh as I type these words. She would have had a ball with the concept of being a “cougar.”.

I’m sorry I digressed, what was the question? Something about “what could he possibly see in a woman 18 years older who is his mother’s age”….

May-December in the News: Hollywood’s May-December romances

Step right up and enjoy the (slide) show!

Rocker Rod Stewart is almost as well known for his dating habits as his is for his music. The British crooner has been married three times and linked to countless other gorgeous ladies, fathering seven children from five different relationships. Since 2007, the 65-year-old has been married to model Penny Lancaster, 18 year his junior.

A picture is worth a thousand words right?  Well here are 24 pictures you’ll have fun perusing!

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know I have mixed emotions about our fascination with Hollywood’s version of May-December romances.  Few of us can relate to Demi Moore or the late Anna Nicole Smith. When it comes to navigating our daily lives their role models might not provide much help.  However, the famous couples do remind us that love knows no age.

Last night I was listening to Delilah’s radio show.  A man called in a dedication for his fiancee who happened to be 20 years his senior.  Delilah’s words of wisdom were to skip paying attention to the age difference and just make sure they  were both in the same place in their lives.  If you are just winding up and ready to travel the world and your partner is looking forward to staying home and gardening it won’t matter what your ages are.  Life stage compatibility could be a problem.

And now…. on with the show!  I think you’ll enjoy this photo gallery.  I know I did.

I officially feel like a kid in a candy store!!!  I am finding so many articles about May-December relationships.  A year ago I was lucky to find one a month and those were usually coming from the U.K.  I’m wondering if the new TV shows Modern Family and Cougar Town have generated more interest in age gap relationships.  Whatever the case may be, I am a happy camper.

Please take a moment to read what Mr. Dad has to say on the subject.  He is right on in my book!

And what we are shocked by Soap Opera?!

Reading about Susan Lucci being 63 makes me feel old, but then since I’m aging anyway, I would like to do it just like Susan Lucci has done.  She is amazing! Evidently her new love interest on All My Children has things buzzing.  While she is only 23 years older than the actor she is linked with in the show, tongues are wagging.  Mind you another character played by David Canary is in a relationship with someone 40+ years his junior.  Don’t worry we haven’t gone daft!  We won’t be commenting on this one, but it’s here for you read.  Let us know what you think!  We’d love to hear from you.

Nine years on and Barbara Windsor and her toyboy husband Scott are happier than ever | Mail Online

For all of you women who are dating younger men, I think you’ll find this of interest.  You may not just be “cougars” anymore, perhaps you are bright, intelligent, vital women who marry the man you love regardless of what society might say!   And do we really have to call him a “toyboy” or “boy toy?”  Yikes!

Age gap – smage gap!  I mean…. I’m just saying….

Cheers,
Gayle
